The latest… 1/8/96
A late Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you who I haven’t wished that to yet. I hope this year is a great one for all of you… it’s looking like it’s going to be an exciting one for me.
I mentioned in my last update that I was beginning to yearn for San Diego again… well, I’ve definitely decided to move back. I wrote a letter to John Couch (an Info.NET board member, friend, and the guy who recruited me for this job) and explained to him my situation and that I knew I definitely belonged in San Diego. It was important to me that I share my feelings with him first as I was unsure about how he might react and wanted to ensure that we would come out on the other side of this with our relationship still in good standing. I couldn’t have asked for a better response… from him and the president/CEO of Info.NET. John and I just had a chance this last Friday to sit down and really chat about it and I laid out for him what I was facing. With word of my return to San Diego getting around, a couple of companies perked up and made me offers. I really was wanting to stay with Info.NET if possible as I was aware that the technology we are developing is definitely groundbreaking. John’s suggestion to me was basically that I take this opportunity to follow through on my dream of the past couple years and start my own business doing consulting work, among other things, and that my first contract would be to continue to do what I have been for Info.NET. This position would then free me up to do contract workfor SAIC (one of the companies that made me an offer) and other people/companies. John also said that he and probably Scott (the prez of Info.NET) would be interested in investing in my operation to help get it off the ground. So this is exactly what I’m going to do. I’ll probably be kicking this off with Steve, Rob, possibly George (these are the guys I worked with at CyberBridge and Providence) and maybe even some others (JasonB?). I also don’t plan on limiting our work to strictly computer based stuff… I’m hoping through this I’ll get a chance to do some sound work as well. John also offered me a corporate shell (all the legal mumbo jumbo) he has already set up that he’s not using. Things are definitely falling in place to make this happen and I’m getting more excited about it as the days go by. I’m looking for a name, so if you all have any suggestions please shoot them at me.
So, it looks as if I’ll be moved back by the last weekend in January. I’ll be working out of the house in RB for starters… I’m thinking at this point I’ll be setting up a dedicated ISDN link there for my internet connectivity, for those of you who care. Should be pretty sweet when I get it all set up.
Take care all of you… and write if you get the chance! God bless.
