The latest… 11/27/96
Greetings all! Many apologies for taking 9.5 months to update… some of
you have been asking. Life has been pretty crazy (man, I love it that way!)
as you’ll soon see…
I’m not listing everyone’s address anymore… I have 110 names on this mailing list now… glad I have so many friends! ![]()
On the job front, I’m on my third job since I mailed last. (Didn’t I say it’s been crazy?) I spent the month of March consulting for Info.NET and managing its systems from down here. From there I went to work for a company in Rancho Bernardo called Vitual-X. The business there was to create a website product targeted at media entities like newspapers, tv stations, radio stations, etc. I was doing a lot of 3D stuff there and helping out on the systems administration end as well. This company had previously been a print agency and the owner was not really ready to break into the world of internet based commerce… this made for a pretty bad work environment and I got to the point where I couldn’t take it anymore and left after a mere two months. I did manage to get a vacation in there and went to New York (again) to see Travis and get him moved back to San Diego. So I then took a couple months off while I put my toes in some different pools to see what would come up. Through a friend I had previously worked with at BHI, I ended up at Qualcomm, Inc. working in the Systems & Server Administration group. I started there towards the end of July and quickly came to enjoy working there a lot. Made a lot of good
friends (I miss you guys; when’s our next lunch?) and started thinking this one was going to last a good while. Ahhhhh… stability. Then about a month and a half into it, I got a call from a gent by the name of Nick Lambesis.
Nick owns an advertising agency and I had actually done some consulting for him back when I was in high school, when the agency was just getting off the ground. We had sort of stayed in touch though my mother and John Couch and I actually had talked to him about working with/at his agency just before I started at Qualcomm. We ended up having lunch, he asked me what I wanted, I told him, he said ok, and I’ve been here since October 7th. My official title is Technology Director and I’m basically doing what I love… managing all computer systems & networking, and am overseeing the agency’s foray into the world of interactive/internet content creation. We have some pretty cool clientele: Airwalk Shoes, BeBe Clothing, Charles David Shoes, Morey Boogie Boards, Cosmar (Nail products), Pro Kennex (Tennis products), Mattel, etc. It’s a fun place, lots of interesting people, and I get to spend a lot of money.
My plate is definitely full though as I’m the only computer dude in the place…
On the theater front, I’ve made my official return to the stage since 1989. CCT’s shows have been going great… I was involved in my usual capacity as Sound Designer for this summer’s Crazy For You (which I also engineered),
Fiddler On The Roof, and Damn Yankees. I was actually in Damn Yankees playing Rocky, one of the ballplayers. Fun, fun, fun show. Then this fall we premiered Little Women, an awesome, original musical by a couple of my
buddies, Jon Lorenz and Robb Beus. I played the part of John Brooks (Laurie’s tutor, who marries the oldest daughter, Meg). Very fun, lots of incredible music (more pats on the back to ya Jon). This show actually made an impact on me as a person being a part of it, that was something exciting. If you missed it, feel very, very bad. Hopefully we’ll be remounting it sometime… I’m now in rehearsals for Traditions of Christmas (CCT’s Christmas show), which I’ll be in this year and completely stepping out of sound for the first time in 6.5 years. I’m in the ensemble, which is a group of 12 people who are sort of the glue that brings all of the show’s pieces together. I have this cool Beach Boys solo too… be sure to come check it out.
Would love to hear from all of you! PLEASE, stay in touch!
