The latest… 3/14/98
Well I can’t believe I’m finally sitting down to write the next installment of my “semi-regular (HA!) newsletter” of sorts to keep you all up to date on my life (whether you care of not!). I have been putting off writing this next issue for one main reason, but some of you have been bugging me about when I would give some sort of closure to things mentioned in the last letter.
I’m writing this as I sit in one of my favorite, and one of the most beautiful places in San Diego… The Spreckels theater in downtown. I’m currently in tech rehearsals for my first show with the San Diego Civic Light Opera (a.k.a. “Starlight”). Yes, amazing as it is you can now say that I’m a “professional” actor, that is, if you consider getting paid qualifies one as a professional. I’ll be playing the Minstrel in “Once Upon A Mattress” opening March 19th and playing through the 29th. I can get plenty of 2 for 1 coupons if you would like to come (please come see me!).
Since writing last, Traditions of Christmas (96) passed… fun show, but very tiring… (didn’t do it again in 97). Then last summer I played Bert Barry in CCT’s 42nd Street and was in Godspell up on Mt. Helix. I had a marvelous time in both shows… and loved singing “We Beseech Thee”. Godspell was really an amazing experience… those of you who were either in the cast or saw the show know what I’m talking about! After that came Annie last October…. I got to sit in the Assistant Director’s seat for that one… and sit was just about all I did. I dunno… I think I offered some valuable input when I started giving notes. I had fun just the same and got to be in the show as well…. played the role of Bert Healy who sings “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile”… lots o’ fun! Also appeared as Harold Ickes (Sr.), a servant in Warbuck’s mansion, a Hooverville bum, and a fireman… wooo hooo!
Then came auditions for Starlight’s winter season in December. What an insane organization! Actually made me appreciate CCT all the more! Anyway… I unbelievably got called back for roles in all 3 shows… and 8 callbacks later ended up as the Minstrel in “Mattress”. The people are great though and the show is going to be hilarious… don’t miss it! I have no idea what I’ll be doing in the months ahead… at this point I’m considering auditioning for Starlight’s Camelot and CCT’s West Side Story. We’ll see… I’ve been telling myself I would take this summer to do a lot of the things I’ve had to put off due to shows and other such commitments…. things like getting back into piano lessons, and taking some classes to keep myself up to date in my field… programming classes… something most of you wouldn’t be interested in. ![]()
On the work front, things at Lambesis are going well. Can you believe I’ve been at the same job now for almost a year and a half! A nice change from my seemingly endless bouncing around between places previous to landing here. In the time that has passed, I’ve been able to hire 2 gents… Robert Evans, who’s the Digital Media Services Director helping with the web content development department of the agency, and Steven Pappas who’s handling internal Technical Support… a large burden I was more than happy to surrender to him. They are both great and I know I don’t thank them enough for the help they give and how good they make me look. I’ve also had a title change… I’m now known as Chief Technology Officer (CTO)… some of you probably aren’t familiar with this…. it’s basically much the same as a CIO, with additional technical responsibilities I won’t go into here. The most recent project of magnitude has been the construction of an entirely new website for Airwalk. Don’t go looking for it though, because at this point they haven’t paid for it and it’s not accessible to the world. It looks nice though and will be something worth showing around when the time comes.
I think that’s all for now… Would love to hear from you all so get those reply buttons working!
None of my contact information has changed (believe it or not) since the last message. But if you still want it, just ask…
