New Adventures

Jess here with some more updates for Maddie's fans. Today James and I decided that we would attempt to go to the movies! People have told us that we should take advantage of the time when Maddie is so young and not real mobile and get out as much as we can. We have been taking little outings during the day and it has been SO nice to get out of the house.

So, today was the movies. Maddie's first movie was War of the Worlds. For starters, it is a great movie... go see it. Now a movie with Maddie... that was a bit different. So I strapped on the Baby Bjorn, tucked her in, and got comfy for the movie. She was out for about the first 30 minutes, and then it was feeding time. Maddie doesn't like to wait too long when she is hungry, and we figured we better get some food in her before the whole theater starts throwing popcorn at us. We purposefully picked an 11:30am showing hoping that not too many people would be there. I handed Maddie over to James and he proceeded to feed her from the bottle. She did pretty well, but I am sure that James wasn't watching too closely as he was feeding her. Her little bib was pretty wet afterwards. I am guessing that it was not the best time to feed her during the suspenseful parts! So, then back in the Baby Bjorn she went. She decided that for the second part of the movie, she would try to attract some attention by snoring. No matter what position I put her in, she just continued to snore. And of course there were several quiet suspenseful parts to the movie in the second half, and the only sound in the theater were these little snores. Who brought their baby to the movies anyway? Come on now!!! We are trying to watch a movie and someone is snoring... show a little respect. I figured I would blame it on the guy next to me if anyone asked! (Note: the only guy next to me was James) :-) Overall she did pretty well though! Next time we will try to plan a little better so feeding time doesn't conflict with the movie.

After the movie, we went to the Carlsbad outlet mall for some lunch and to check out a store there for a diaper bag. We still have not found one that we like. We had a backpack style from Eddie Bauer, but one of the seems ripped so we returned it. We hadn't even used it 3 times yet! We have looked at every diaper bag at Babies R Us and I have scoured the internet. There are great ones online, but James and I don't want to purchase one that we have not seen in person. And James has this phobia of using a diaper bag that looks feminine! He doesn't want it to even remotely come close to looking like a purse. I know the ones with the Asian prints are popular right now... not even a chance. (Plus they are SO expensive). We do like the over the shoulder strap kind as opposed to a backpack... that way you can get into it while holding the baby. So the hunt continues...

Tonight is my first night alone with Maddie. James is participating in the CCT 25th year celebration up on Mt. Helix. We were thinking of taking Maddie up there, but James was concerned due to the amount of mosquitos. Maddie and I started off the evening with a diaper change, then a little feeding followed by yet another diaper change. I told you this girl can poop!!! I was completely exhausted at this point and decided to take a nap. Maddie had different plans. She decided to make all sorts of noise while "sleeping" in her bouncer. I think I got about 5 minutes of sleep in. Oh well. Then I changed yet another diaper, and proceeded to sling on the Baby Bjorn and stick her in there for a little while. She has been peacfully sleeping in there for about 2 hours now! I was able to watch a little TV, do some email, some internet searches, etc., all while Maddie is peacefully sleeping! This thing is great! I think she likes being all snuggly next to mommy!!! I did have other things I wanted to get done (cleaning, crafty stuff, etc.) but it is a little hard to do with this big papoose thing strapped on in front of you. But it is cute to look down and see her adorable little face. I can't complain!

And yes.... we know you all have been requesting more pictures of her. James is posting them as fast as we are taking them!! Maybe we just aren't taking them fast enough! Just keep checking back.

  1. It sounds like things are going well for you guys. I can’t wait to see little Maddie. I have a minor suggestion, though. I go to sooo many weddings where people bring little itty bitty babies. Please, please, get little baby ear muffs or something to protect her tiny little ears at the movies, shows, and parties. Thanks! Auntie Shawna can sleep better now that she has recommended this! :)
