Cleaning & a tuna recipe…
I am sure everyone else is like me in that I absolutely hate to clean. I would rather go to the doctor's than clean. Isn't that sad. I don't mind organizing things, but actually cleaning is a different story. In fact, I find that I make lists about the cleaning I have to do, organize it all, and then never get to cleaning. At least I feel like I get something accomplished by organizing. I found this great tool last night to help out!
So I was looking online yesterday researching all about carpet cleaners. I figured we might as well invest in one since we have 1 dog, 2 cats, a little itty bitty who will one day be potty training and wiping her jelly filled hands on the carpets! While I was doing my research, I came accross a great list of what chores you should do daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonally. I love it... I have already put everything in an Excel chart (I love Excel) and even bought little gold star stickers for James and I to use to show that we have finished a chore! I modified it slightly to meet our needs and added things like changing the litter box and cleaning Abby's "stuff". Hint: I spread out the weekly chores throughout the week so that there wasn't a massive list of things to do come Saturday. Here is the list...
Daily Chores:
-dishes
-laundry
-tidy up
-file papers
-(I added cleaning the kitchen counters and the litter box to the daily list)
Weekly Chores:
-clean stove top
-change all linens
-clean the bathrooms
-clean door mats
-vacuum
-dust
-(I added Abby's "stuff" to the weekly chores)
Monthly Chores:
-check smoke alarms
-deep clean in and out of appliances
-clean ceiling fans
-clean shutters and window treatments
-wipe down walls & doors
-dust air vents
-vacuum intensively including crevices of furniture
-dust intensively (behind furniture, moldings, ceilings)
-clean windows
-spot treat carpets
Seasonal Chores:
-deep window cleaning
-check weather stripping on doors and windows
-clean exterior doors
-check heating & cooling units (fireplace too), check filters, clean vents
-appliance maintainence (vacuum refrigerator coils, clean lint and debri from dryer, clean vents and exhaust)
-clutter control (closet overhauls - go through all closets and pantries and remove clutter and organize)
Today is the first day we are starting this list. So far I have cleaned all three bathrooms in the house (I put that weekly chore on Thursdays). I have to admit that ours did take the longest, but of course I got a bit distracted and cleaned and organized all the bathroom cabinets in there. That place is sparkling!!! I still have to do the other daily chores and we have about 6 months of papers to file. Now I know why they make it a daily chore! We will see how long this lasts!!!
On a different note but still in line with household goodness, I came up with a new tuna recipe. It is SO easy that even James makes it now. There are no measurements... just do everything to taste. All it is is a can of tuna, olive oil, rosemary, salt, and pepper. It is SO good. You can eat it like that, put it in a sandwich, make a little wrap... whatever. Just try it and tell me that is the best thing you have ever eaten!!!
