A Day in the Life of…

Hi... it's Jessica writing. Many of you ask what the heck I do all day, so I decided to chronical an average day. This day was yesterday (August 22th). Here goes...

7:15am - Wake up a little late. James was supposed to get me up at 7, but he forgot.

7:30am - Still trying to wake myself up. Naither James nor I are feeling too well from a late night rendezvous with Mexican food the previous night.

7:50am - I realize that I probably won't make my twice a week scheduled weekly walk with the neighbor gals because Maddie is still sleeping. She is normally up a little after 7:00am, but because we were out late having Mexican food, she went to bed about 2 hours later than normal.

7:55am - Phone rings, but I can't get to it.

7:58am - I attempt to call the neighbor gals to tell them that I can't make the walk that is in 2 minutes, but I can't reach any of them. I glance at the clock... they all say it is 8:02... guess the one I was going by that morning was a bit slow.

8:02am - I get a call asking where I am, so I fill them in. The princess is still sleeping.

8:15am - The princess wakes up with all smiles and wants to touch all the butterflies hanging in her room. She is just so darn cute! And of course there is a diaper change.
8:20am - Maddie and I venture downstairs to go make some breakfast. I have gotten really good at making oatmeal and gathering all the breakfast materials with one hand.

8:23am - I feed Maddie her breakfast while teaching her sign language (more, all done, drink) and instilling good manners. Today was the first day she did the "more" sign! This is her first official sign!

8:25am - Reprimend Abby (our dog) for trying to eat Maddie's food. Maddie likes to feed Abby and drop things on the floor for her. I am working on training both Maddie and Abby that this is not allowed.

8:45am - Clean up Maddie and the mess she made.

8:50am - Time for my breakfast!

9:00am - Put all the clean dishes away and clean the kitchen.

9:30am - Haul Maddie's clean laundry (and Maddie) upstairs to put away.

9:45am - Refold some of the clean laundry. Who keeps unfolding and tipping over my neat piles of clean laundry? All I hear are giggles!

10:00am - Reorganize some of Maddie's clothes and toys to make it easier for both of us to get to and clean up afterwards.

10:15am -Put all the toys away that Maddie has spread all over her room. Maddie helps me clean up.

10:30am - Time for a nap! Not mine... Maddie's! And of course another diaper change.

10:45am - Change into work clothes. Move large cabinets and other furniture items to the front of the garage for donation pickup later in the week.

11:10am - Ahhh... I can finally shower!

11:20am - Strip the bed. Decide I want to wash the mattress cover, so I will have to wait until later to make the bed.

11:23am - Wash all the sheets and any other clothes that can fit in there at the same time.

11:27am - I work on putting Maddie's pictures in frames I recently bought.

11:40am - Oops... there goes the glass in one of the frames! I guess glass and pressure don't mix too well. I continue to frame out other pictures and even work on a shadow box of her baby items I have been meaning to do for a year!

12:30pm - Maddie is awake! I get her out of her crib as the doorbell rings. I forget to turn her crib monitor off (an alarm sound if there is no movement in the crib for 20 seconds), so the alarm starts to sound as I am holding Maddie with one arm, holding back Abby with the other, and somehow still managing to open the door and have a civilized conversation with the person on the other side.

12:35pm - Make Maddie and I some lunch.

1:00pm - Clean up after Maddie and her lunch.

1:05pm - Answer the front door while holding Maddie and holding back Abby.

1:10pm - Finish cleaning the kitchen after lunch.

1:30pm - Time for a diaper change.

1:33pm - I continue framing Maddie's pictures and working on her shadow box while playing with her. It has taken me a year to get the supplies, so I figure I would put everything together while I could!

2:10pm - Check the dryer. The mattress cover is still not dry enough, so I restart the dryer.

2:13pm - Play with Maddie.

3:00pm - Another diaper change and a nap for Maddie.

3:02pm - Empty the dryer.

3:05pm - Clean out the pantry and reorganize what is in there.

3:15pm - Organize some of the closets upstairs.

3:30pm - Back to the shadow box! I also schedule Salvation Army to come on Thursday to get our donation items.

4:30pm - Maddie is awake! I change her diaper and it is back to play time!

5:15pm - I finally get to making the bed. Maddie is throwing herself in the pile of clean sheets.

5:30pm - James is home. He plays with Maddie while I finish making the bed. Maddie keeps pulling my clean clohes out of the laundry bin and giving them to daddy.

6:00pm - Start making dinner. Check email while dinner is in the oven.

6:45pm - The three of us sit down and eat dinner together. Maddie isn't too happy with her meal (pesto chick and some veggies). She eats all the veggies and picks at her chicken. She normally loves chicken!
7:15pm - Clean up after dinner and do all the dishes.

7:22pm - Put Maddie in a "time out" for not listening to me. I asked her not to touch the dishes in the dishwasher, but she decided not to listen. She gets a verbal warning, then a squeeze on the hand, then a time out.
7:26pm - Put Maddie back in "time out" for doing what she was doing to get the first time out. I realized that James had already put her in time out at least once (maybe twice) since he had been home. Apparently she is testing her limits.

7:30pm - This time daddy puts her in a time out. I am still cleaning the kitchen. James is helping in between the time outs and watching Maddie.

7:55pm - Maddie gets a bath! She loves the bath!

8:10pm - We say "good night" to Maddie and tuck her in.
8:25pm - James and I go through some boxes and decide what we are keeping and what we are donating.

9:30pm - Sit down on the sofa to relax. I eventually fall asleep on the sofa, then wake up around midnight to get ready for bed. James normally goes to bed around then.
